How to Stop a Campervan Stove Smoking
If your campervan stove produces smoke inside the van, it can be frustrating. Fortunately, most smoking issues are caused by simple problems that can usually be fixed easily.
Understanding why a stove smokes will help you correct the issue and get the fire burning properly again.
Cold flue pipe
One common reason for smoke is a cold flue.
When the flue pipe is cold, smoke may struggle to rise properly. Lighting the stove gently at first helps warm the flue and improves chimney draw.
Poor airflow
Stoves need a good supply of air to burn properly.
If the air controls are closed too much when lighting the stove, the fire may struggle and produce smoke. Opening the air controls when starting the fire usually helps the fire establish more quickly.
Flue height
A flue that is too short can reduce the natural draw of the stove.
Adding enough height above the roof helps improve airflow and encourages smoke to rise through the chimney.
Fuel quality
Wet or poor quality fuel can create excessive smoke.
Using dry fuel allows the fire to burn hotter and cleaner, which greatly reduces smoke production.
Flue blockages
Occasionally soot or debris inside the flue pipe can restrict airflow.
Checking and cleaning the flue regularly helps prevent this problem and keeps the stove running efficiently.
