Fuels to Avoid in a Campervan Stove

Fuel quality plays a huge role in how well your stove performs.

Even the best stove will struggle if poor fuel is used.

Avoid Damp or Green Wood

One of the most common mistakes people make is burning green or damp wood.

Freshly cut wood contains a high amount of moisture, which prevents it from burning efficiently.

Instead of producing heat, much of the fire’s energy is wasted evaporating the water inside the wood.

This leads to:

• excessive smoke
• soot build-up
• reduced heat output

Why Dry Fuel Matters

Properly seasoned wood or smokeless fuels burn hotter and cleaner.

This means:

• better heat
• less smoke
• cleaner flue pipes

Our Preferred Fuel

While our stoves are multi-fuel, we personally find they perform best with smokeless coal briquettes.

In particular we regularly use Burnwell Blend Plus, which provides long burn times and consistent heat.

Although it is slightly more expensive than some fuels, the longer burn time means you often use less overall.
